🗞️ What We Know

It’s hard to know what to believe on the internet, so here’s what we know to be true about the situation from the Associated Press’ official reporting.

(Trigger Warning: This report includes detailed descriptions of the planned attack. If you don’t wish to read about this information, scroll to the ‘What concertgoers need to know’ block in bold below.)

What happened that led to the concerts being canceled:

  • Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday for conspiring to attack this weekend’s sold-out Vienna Eras Tour shows.

  • The main suspect was a 19-year-old Austrian who began working on attack plans in July and uploaded an oath of allegiance to ISIS and al-Qaida to the internet a few weeks ago. He confessed to plans to use knives or homemade explosives to attack an area outside the Ernst Happel Stadium, according to the head of Vienna’s Directorate of State Security and Intelligence.

  • Authorities found chemical substances and technical devices indicating preparatory acts in the main suspect’s home in Ternitz, Austria.

  • Authorities also found Islamic State group and al-Qaida material at the home of the second suspect, a 17-year-old Austrian who was arrested by special forces near the stadium where he was employed by a company providing services for the concerts.

  • The information about the threat to the Eras Tour Vienna dates originated with U.S. intelligence and was given to the Austrians and Europol, according to law enforcement sources via ABC News.

What concertgoers need to know:

  • Vienna’s concert organizer Barracuda Music published in an Instagram post late Wednesday that it had “no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.” Taylor Nation reposted this statement to their Instagram story. The same message has been posted under the Vienna dates on Taylor’s official website.

  • All concert tickets will be refunded. Austrian rail operators ÖBB and Westbahn announced they will reimburse fans for train tickets that had been bought but not yet used.

  • As of right now, the messaging all states that the concerts are cancelled, not postponed. This suggests that there will not be rescheduled dates for these shows, though Taylor and Taylor Nation have yet to make a statement as of this reporting.

  • The Mayor of London and the Metropolitan Police have both made statements that the London Eras Tour shows next week are scheduled to proceed as planned.

There’s a fan project to get Long Live at the top of the streaming charts to let Taylor know we’re there for her! 💜

Also, someone started a Reddit thread on r/TaylorSwift for Vienna Swifties to show off & celebrate their planned Eras Tour outfits ✨

Stay beautiful, Swifties 🫶
